Wedding Songlist

Wedding Songlist, Non-Traditional Wedding Songs

Your wedding song – the song you pick for your first dance – matters. Almost always it’s a song that’s meant a lot to you and your partner for a long time, a song that struck a chord and continued to resonate long after you heard it for the first time.

And the way your wedding band plays that song is the way you’ll remember it, well, forever.

So we better get it right!

Average Bar Band specializes in collaborating with brides and grooms to create unforgettable wedding music. Distinctive wedding songlists that reflect you, your life, your shared experiences. And we put particular emphasis on learning and perfecting “your song,” so that we can perform it like we wrote it ourselves—the way you want to remember it.

A thoughtful wedding songlist matters and we like it when brides suggest non-traditional wedding songs. We’ve played “Ten Years Gone” by Led Zeppelin as a first dance. Other First Dance tunes we have played by client request include: “Just Like Heaven” by Katie Melua; “Better Together”/Jack Johnson; Joshua Radin’s “I’d Rather Be With You,” and Unwritten Law’s “Rest Of My Life,” to name just a few.

With Average Bar Band, you’ll be trusting one of the most important days of your life to musicians who’ve played with Norah Jones, Lauryn Hill, Gloria Estefan, The Teenagers (“Why Do Fools Fall In Love“) and The Chiffons (“He‘s So Fine“). The list of “first dance songs” we’ve performed is equally eclectic—from to Dropkick Murphys to Peter Gabriel.

It’s our job to give the client what they want, and play the music like we wrote it ourselves. We are a wedding band because we play weddings, but we are musicians who are deeply committed to making great music and leaving our clients happy that they chose us. We take the music seriously and we take your wedding seriously, because we want it to be a positive, joyful experience for you and your guests, and we want the planning stages to be as simple and easy as possible.

If you think our musical sensibility might fit with your idea of a great wedding music songlist, let’s talk. Contact bandleader Jimmy Greenwood at 212.989.6331 to find if we’re the right band to develop and perform the music at your wedding reception, or other special event.
